Saint Stephen’s day welcomed the new immigrants at the doors of the reception centre. Around thirty immigrants arrived at the port’s first reception centre late yesterday afternoon.
Escorted by agents of the Ragusa Police Force, the refugees were brought back from the city of Palma di Montechiaro in the Province of Agrigento, where they had arrived in two boats at the break of day. On board of the first ship, were twenty six migrants, all of whom are reported to be in good health. On the second boat, there are believed to have been around twenty immigrants, yet all but five them managed to disappear without a trace.
All migrants claimed, when questioned by police, to be of Tunisian nationality. Police questioning went on late into the afternoon in order to understand if the group which had been picked up in the town centre contained any of the people responsible for bringing the boat over. It is believed that the group of around thirty migrants will stay in the centre for only a few days, according to the Ragusa Prefecture.
